Abstract: As the leading alternatives of traditional fire-extinguishing technology, water mist shows broad applications with its advantages: clean, high efficiency, low cost and little damage to protected objects and has been applied in narrow and long spaces, such as mines, metros, road tunnels and so on in recent years. However, forced ventilation would affect on the process and efficiency of water mist fire suppression comparatively in tunnel, and the interaction would be formed by water mist, air flow and fire behavior. The drop affect model was joined with existing fire simulation method. Then numerical simulations were performed by CFD, aimed at different ventilations and position of fire sources. The results indicate that the effect of fire suppression can be better when spray nozzles are located against the wind flow relative to fire source. The simulation can appraise the performance of water mist system with longitudinal ventilation and supervise the experiments and applications of water mist systems in the protection of tunnel fires.
